Italian newspapers reacted with gloomy resignation rather than shock this morning after a 1-1 weekend draw with New Zealand left their World Cup hopes in danger.

The 2006 World Cup winners now face a combat to keep away from a humiliating early exit, prompting local media to confer with them as 'flops' even earlier than their third community match in South Africa.

"Italy flop! Now there is the possibility of coming domestic," blared main La Repubblica newspaper on its front web page, mirroring a common theme in the Italian press.

La Stampa used a nearly similar headline above a photograph of a disconsolate female fan.

Rank outsiders New Zealand held Italy of their neighborhood F assembly in Nelspruit on Sunday, leaving the defending champions wanting to beat Slovakia on Thursday to reach the last 16.

"Italy with out a video game and headless," La Repubblica complained.

"An Italy with out first-class," talked about Corriere della Sera on its front web page alongside an evaluation of the "lengthy decline of a superb captain," Fabio Cannavaro.

"or not it's a really bad influence, greater than disappointing. i might say chilling," wrote Gianni Mura in La Repubblica.

several newspapers became their attention to teach Marcello Lippi's adjustments for the team formation and line-up.

"i am afraid Lippi changes Italy always as a result of he has understood that the team can't give him what he's attempting to find," wrote Mario Sconcerti in Corriere della Sera.

"Is that it, Lippi?" sniffed the banner headline in La Gazzetta dello activity as the country's media gave their crew a collective thumbs-down.
